Fix-It Friday 51

It's fix-it Friday! Here is this week's shot:

And my edit.

I tried for quite a while to make a 'scrapbook-y' looking thing on photoshop (elements 7) but I couldn't make it look right...I was trying to figure out how to round the edges...any tips?

Head over to I heart faces to see other great edits!

  1. I know this post is a little old now, but I've just stumbled on your blog, looking through old posts and thought I'd post my tip in case you're still interested! This is how I round corners anyway (I'm sure there are better ways to do it).
When the edit of the photo is finished, I create a new layer at the very top of the layers palette, and hold down the 'alt' key while I 'merge visible'. This creates a layer which incorporates all of the edits of the photo into one layer while keeping the original layers in tact. (You can of course flatten the photo, but I like keeping all of my layers.)

Beneath this layer, create a new layer, and draw a 'rounded rectangle' using the rectangle/circle tool. You can change the radius of the corners to make them more pointy or more curvey. Then use the curved rectangle as a clipping mask - hover the mouse over the line between the two layers and hold down the 'alt' key until you see the little symbol change shape. Click once, and the top layer (your edited photo) will 'cut itself out' in the shape of the layer below, which is a rounded rectangle in this case. It creates a world of possibilities - pretty-patterned paper 'cut out' in the shape of text, create your own templates using different shapes, etc.
Gee, that was a bit long-winded but hopefully able to be understood. I'll feel a little silly if this is something you know already, and you were actually asking a completely different question!
